China’s Gaokao ( the national college entrance examination) happens on June 7th, 8th and 9th every year. It is perceived the toughest examination in the world. When it is approaching, parents and the whole society will join the cheerleading to boost the exam takers’ morale for the highest score in the exam. Their behaviors as well as the gifts exchanged for Gaokao cheerleading have become a culture, dubbed “gaokao culture高考文化”, like exam taker’s mum dressing in “Chinese Qipao”, cueing Chinese idiom – Qi Kai De Sheng旗开得胜, meaning “win victory as soon as one's banner is displayed”.
Chinese are so innovative and creative on Gaokao gifting. #gaokao This year, pig’s feet top the Gaokao’s gift list, the embodiment of “Jin Bang Ti Ming 金榜题名 (Name titled on golden board)”, in which Ti 题 is phonetically same with “pig’s feet 蹄”.
Here I wish every exam taker good luck to win the best score in Gaokao. But if not, that is still fine because life is a journey, which is more about experiencing than winning.
